Longtime "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak announced via Twitter that the upcoming season of the beloved NBC show will be his last. Sajak, who has hosted the show since 1981, will continue as a consultant on the show, Sony Pictures Television revealed in a statement. Sajak’s daughter, Maggie, works on the show as its social media correspondent and temporarily filled in for resident letter-turner Vanna White in May.
Sajak had previously stated in 2022 that “the end is near” for his hosting gig. His retirement announcement comes after some hard-to-watch moments on the show in recent months.
